Dr Bernadette Veeger

Bernadette is Dutch, but being born in Uganda, where her father worked in a clinic (as general practitioner as well),  the abroad has always had a great attraction to her.

She was raised in a small village in the southern part of the Netherlands.  The first sign of following in her father’s footsteps was when she decided to study medicine. She studied medicine in the State University in Leiden (Holland). She did her specialisation to family doctor in the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium.

During and directly after her studies she worked as an assistant in a leprosy centre in India, did research in Pretoria, south Africa and was educated in acupuncture in Colombo, Sri Lanka. She passed her Acupuncture exam with the Dutch Physician Acupuncture Society.

Now being a certified general practitioner she worked for over 10 years in several practices both in Belgium and Holland. She also worked as a G.P. in psycho-geriatric and somatic elderly homes.

During this years she followed a master of arts in psychology training at the Benelux University in Antwerp, Belgium in which she graduated in in 1996.

Bernadette and her husband Maarten have always wanted to live and work abroad with there kids. In 2003 they moved to southern Spain where Bernadette started to work as a general practitioner in a private practise, Soon she started her own practise and worked for several medical centres.

Currently, besides her own practise she works for the Spanish National Healthcare (SAS, Servicio Andaluz de Salud).

Having 5 years of experience as a G.P. in our Málaga region, she is very well informed in Spanish healthcare, both private and public. She knows a lot of specialists personally and regularly deliberates with them. She is fluent in Spanish so she is able to discuss every medical problem with her Spanish colleagues.

Rebuilding her old practise into the brand new Mar y Salud centre, where a lot of disciplines come together, is like a dream come true. She wants to run the centre in a holistic way: It’s not only about getting better, but about staying better and feeling good as well. Mens sana in corpere sano, a healthy mind in a healthy body.

Bernadette speaks English, German, French, Spanish and Dutch.

She and Maarten live with their 3 kids Eline, Luc and Stephanie in Frigiliana. When she is not working, Bernadette likes to do things with the family or likes to do sports like tennis and sailing or walking in the mountains.
